Super Mario Bros: Beyond 8-4 and the bare world

Stuff like this has already been found by others; this is just an explanation of it all together. In the original Super Mario Bros., touching the flagpole sends Mario to the next level in the world, and defeating Bowser sends him to the first level of the next world. If you were to hack the ROM, putting a flagpole ending in world 1-4 for instance would send you to world 1-5, though that is actually just world 2-1. 2-5 would be 3-1, 2-5 is 4-1, etc. But what if you put it in 8-4? Well, you get some cool extra levels. The levels aren't actually new, they're just messed up versions of ones that are already in the game. You can play 8-5, 8-6, 8-7, and 8-8, but when you reach 8-9, the level automatically times out so you can't go any further. You can also use this trick to explore further into the minus world. Normally, Mario gets stuck in a loop when he enters the pipe at the end of -1, but if you put in a flag, he can finish the level and move on to the next. -2 and -3 work (although the world numbers are actually displayed by other symbols), but -4 never appears. This video shows all these levels, but they were not recorded all together because sometimes the game will freeze and glitch up. So I actually recorded each level separately, which will explain the discrepancies in things like score and coins between each level. I also apologize for the audio getting out of sync. CamStudio's not very good with that. But other than that, enjoy!
